The Shonan Coast is a beautiful shoreline facing Sagami Bay in Kanagawa Prefecture, stretching from Chigasaki to Oiso with Enoshima Island at its center. This popular beach area is characterized by its blue sea and sky, with magnificent views of Mount Fuji in the distance. As one of Japan’s premier resort destinations, it attracts many tourists from both within Japan and overseas.
Particularly, beaches such as Shichirigahama, Yuigahama, and Kugenuma, extending from Kamakura to Fujisawa, are known as meccas for surfing and marine sports. During summer, these areas bustle with people enjoying beach volleyball and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), making them excellent spots for sea bathing.
The area around Enoshima is called the “”Jewel of Shonan”” and offers numerous attractions including Enoshima Shrine, an observation tower, and caves. At dusk, visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery created by the sunset sinking into the horizon against the silhouette of Mount Fuji.
Along the Shonan Coast runs a promenade called the “”Shonan Walking Path,”” popular for strolls and cycling with ocean views. The area also features stylish cafes and restaurants where visitors can savor fresh seafood.
Displaying different expressions throughout the four seasons, the Shonan Coast welcomes visitors year-round with various attractions: rapeseed flowers in spring, sea bathing in summer, windsurfing in autumn, and views of Mount Fuji in winter. When visiting Kamakura, please take the opportunity to enjoy the sea breeze and open atmosphere of Shonan.
